Bacterial Vaginosis Causes
Bacterial vaginosis causes symptoms that may mimic lichen sclerosis and is detected with a pap smear but not a cone biopsy.
When the balance of the vagina is disrupted by the overgrowth of these bacteria, another bacteria (Lactobacilli) is unable to perform its normal function. This bacterium normally provides a natural disinfectant that helps maintain a healthy balance of microorganisms in the vagina. Some dairy products contain them.

Some factors that may contribute to this infection may be E.coli, which is a normal inhabitant of the rectum. Entering the vagina, it becomes very dangerous. Tight cloths, poor personal hygiene, poor health, use of an intrauterine device, and routine douching are also bad for maternal health. The risk also increases with menopause and diabetes.
